Meet the Dentists

Dr. Varney is a general dentist with interests in family, cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. He has special interests in oral medicine and adult orthodontic treatment with CandidPro Clear Aligners. Dr. Varney is on the medical staff and regularly sees patients at Sibley Memorial Hospitals.

He keeps current in all of the latest advances in the dental field by attending numerous continuing education courses and is a member of several study clubs. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and the University of Maryland Dental School.

He was born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland, and graduated from Walter Johnson High School. He and his family now reside in Kensington. His outside interests include competing marathons and spending time with his wife and three sons.

Dr. Gopalan provides comprehensive dental care with a focus on patient education and overall health. She believes every patient deserves access to quality care and takes time to listen to concerns, explain treatment options and support a positive experience. Her dedication has earned her recognition as a Washingtonian Top Dentist for 2026.

Before dental school, Dr. Gopalan served for six months as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 2021, during which she received the International College of Dentists' Humanitarian Award for outreach. She also holds a Master's in Biomedical Sciences with an Oral Biology Concentration from Rutgers University and studied at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. After graduation, she completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the Martinsburg, West Virginia Veterans Affairs Hospital, where she treated medically compromised patients and focused on restoring full form and function.

Dr. Gopalan stays active in continuing education through several DMV study clubs. Dr. Gopalan is a member of the American Dental Association® and the Academy of General Dentistry, and she serves on the Legislative and Governmental Affairs Council. She is a licensed dentist in DC, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia!

A proud Washington, D.C. native, Dr. Anabel Kelso is dedicated to providing thoughtful, relationship-based dental care to the community that she grew up in.

Dr. Kelso brings extensive clinical training and a broad background in patient care to [practice_name], offering a refined, modern approach to general dentistry. Several years' worth of adventures took her to institutions around the country to hone her academic and clinical skills, including degrees and advanced training from:

Throughout her career, Dr. Kelso has been recognized for her clinical skill, leadership, and dedication to patient care. She is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honorary Dental Society, the American Association of Women Dentists, and the Academy of General Dentistry, and has earned numerous distinctions, including awards in oral pathology, periodontics, radiology, and professional leadership.

Outside the office, Dr. Kelso loves exploring the D.C. area with her friends and family and keeps active and engaged by solving crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels, and Peloton-ing. She cherishes time with her husband, Peter, who ensures she remains a loyal Washington Capitals and Texas Longhorns fan.
